Morris' Guiding Activity

Guiding Question: What is bullying?

Guiding Activity: After taking a bullying pre-test to assess prior knowledge (see Karyn Lorang's Guiding Activity), student groups will conduct research to determine what bullying is and what it isn't. They will analyze the research in light of their own prior knowledge about bullying to come up with a list of the "top" misconceptions about bullying.

Student Instructions: Using the given sites as a starting point, research bullying until you become an expert. As a group, consider, evaluate, and discuss the opinions and research about which you read. You should be able to very specifically answer the questions, "What is bullying?" and "What isn't bullying?" Once you've gotten yourselves to "expert" status, create a list of the top misconceptions about bullying. Your list should include at least five and no more than ten misconceptions. Publish your final copy as a formal "Top Five" (or six, seven, eight...) list that uses clear, to-the-point language to state the misconceptions and then provide the realities.
